CT Nuisance Animals

Connecticut is home to a variety of nuisance animals, which can cause damage to property or pose a threat to human health and safety. Some common nuisance animals in Connecticut include:

  1. Skunks – Known for their distinctive odor and ability to spray, skunks can be a major nuisance in Connecticut. They can dig up lawns and gardens, raid garbage cans, and cause structural damage to homes and buildings.
  2. Raccoons – These nocturnal animals are known for their ability to get into almost any type of structure, including attics, chimneys, and crawl spaces. They can cause damage to homes and property, and can also carry diseases such as rabies and distemper.
  3. Squirrels – These small rodents can cause damage to homes and buildings by chewing on wood, insulation, and electrical wires. They can also carry diseases and parasites, and can be very noisy, especially when they are nesting in attics or walls.
  4. Bats – Although bats are important for controlling insect populations, they can become a nuisance when they roost in attics or other areas of homes or buildings. They can carry diseases such as rabies and histoplasmosis, and their droppings (guano) can pose a health hazard.
  5. Groundhogs – Also known as woodchucks, groundhogs can cause damage to lawns, gardens, and crops. They are also known for digging extensive burrows, which can undermine foundations, patios, and other structures.
  6. Opossums – These nocturnal animals are known for their scavenging behavior and their ability to play dead when threatened. They can cause damage to gardens and property, and can also carry diseases such as leptospirosis and tuberculosis.
