Need Help getting rid of groundhogs? Woodchuck trapping and removal service.

The woodchuck, also known as the groundhog (Marmota monax), is a common species in Connecticut and is found throughout the state in a variety of habitats, including fields, meadows, and forest edges.

Woodchucks are herbivorous animals that feed on a variety of plant material, including grasses, clover, dandelion, and other weeds. They are known for their ability to dig burrows in the ground, which can cause damage to lawns, gardens, and agricultural fields.

The burrows of woodchucks can be extensive, with multiple entrances and chambers, and can extend up to 30 feet in length. These burrows can cause tripping hazards for humans and animals, and can also damage lawn equipment such as lawnmowers.

In addition to physical damage, woodchucks can also cause damage to gardens and crops by feeding on plant material. They are particularly fond of vegetables such as lettuce, peas, and beans, and can quickly decimate a garden if left unchecked.

Overall, while woodchucks are fascinating and important members of the ecosystem, they can cause significant damage to property and crops in Connecticut. Therefore, it is important to manage their populations and minimize their impact on human activities. This can be done through a variety of methods, including exclusion, habitat modification, and, in some cases, humane trapping and removal

Receiving calls to Get rid of groundhogs from under sheds and decks is a common service provided from spring until fall every year in Connecticut. . Not to be confused with moles, woodchucks do not leave tunnels in your lawn. No animal will make a gardener angrier than the groundhog. First off groundhogs will eat just about anything growing including “deer proof” plants. Secondly, It is not uncommon for them to pick one color of flower to eat and touch no other flowers until every flower no matter what species is consumed. I prefer to use traps that go over the woodchucks hole. These positive set woodchuck traps need no bait and will only catch the animals living in the burrow.

Get rid of Woodchuck (Groundhog) from under shed

Have you noticed that something has dug under your shed? If you see a mound of dirt it is likely a woodchuck under the shed. Skunks, raccoons and opossums will also make their home under sheds. Groundhogs (woodchucks), and skunks are the state of Connecticut’s two most likely suspects digging under sheds. Groundhogs dig the largest and most elaborate Burroughs out of all our Connecticut nuisance wildlife. I have seen them cause corners of sheds to sink in the ground because of their digging. Groundhogs will only go to the bathroom in latrine tunnels they dig specifically for this purpose. When one woodchuck latrine is full they will dig a new one. Getting rid of Groundhog (woodchuck) from under a deck

Woodchucks prefer to make their dens under decks, sheds or some sort of overhead cover. Above all, overhead cover protects the woodchuck from predators like hawks. Watch a woodchuck in your yard, and keep an eye on where it goes. If startled it will likely run for the cover of a burrow. Groundhogs will make many duck in holes. These holes are places dug out just enough to take cover in. Furthermore Woodchucks do not like to be more than a quick sprint from cover. Removing a woodchuck from under a deck can be hard or simple. I like to block off all but its main exit and put a trap over that entrance. I prefer these no bait trapping setups for woodchucks. If using bait, the bait must be fresh and abundant. It is much easier and much more effective getting rid of a woodchuck from under a deck without baits, but sometimes baits are the only option.
