The Connecticut shoreline is one of the most beautiful places to live — salt marshes, sandy beaches, historic homes, and quiet neighborhoods from Waterford to Branford. But the same coastal conditions that make it special also invite wildlife problems: salt air rots wooden soffits and fascia, storms pull vents loose, and older homes have gaps that raccoons, skunks, bats, and squirrels love to find.
I’m RF Wildlife — veteran-owned and operated since 2009. I live and work in Old Saybrook right at the end of my road off Exit 2 (Rt 9 & I-95). That means I’m on the highway in seconds and can reach any shoreline town fast — often same day or next day. No call centers, no middleman, no high-pressure sales. When you call or text 860-510-6313, you speak directly to me, Rich — the guy who actually does the trapping and exclusion.

Coastal Home Protection – Why Salt Air Matters
Salt air along the shoreline eats through standard materials quickly — wooden soffits, fascia boards, and gable vents rot faster in towns like Fenwick, Stony Creek, Niantic, or Old Lyme. Once those boards soften or pull away, raccoons and squirrels chew in easily. Storms loosen ridge vents and louvers, letting bats slip inside. Skunks thrive under low decks and crawlspaces near the water — the soil is softer and grubs are plentiful.
That’s why I use stainless steel or vinyl-coated metal products (hardware cloth, dig guards, vent screens, chimney caps) for all coastal exclusions — they resist rust and salt corrosion for years, so your home stays sealed long-term. No cheap galvanized or plastic that fails after one season. I use Stainless Steel mesh and fasteners because standard galvanized hardware will leave rust streaks down your siding within two years in our salt air. My goal is a permanent, clean fix that doesn’t stain your home.
Real Stories from the Shoreline
- Real Estate Wildlife Inspections & Transferable Warranties“Closing a deal in Essex or Old Lyme shouldn’t be stalled by a ‘scare tactic’ wildlife report. I provide straightforward, detailed inspections for buyers and sellers that build confidence—not panic. I encourage buyers to contact me directly with any concerns about a property I’ve inspected. Plus, my exclusion warranties are for the building itself, not the occupant. If I seal a home, that protection transfers to the new owner, adding real value to the sale.
- Robert’s “fearless” raccoon: A raccoon refused to leave an attic even with eviction doors. We switched to trapping and sealed everything — problem solved same week.
- Keith’s crawlspace win: “Easiest solution ever” — Keith had a persistent odor under his deck. I trapped, excluded. He’s been referring neighbors ever since.
Specialized Coastal Services
- Real Estate Inspections — Straightforward reports for shoreline buyers and sellers — no fluff, just facts.
- Bat Exclusion — Permanent solutions with stainless steel or vinyl-coated materials for historic coastal estates and modern homes.
- Emergency Removal — Fast response for “crazy” mother raccoons, skunks under porches, or squirrels in soffits.
- Emergency Video Consult ($125) — If you can’t safely reach the animal (bat in bedroom, raccoon in chimney), I walk you through safe capture/assessment via video or phone. If it turns into a full job, I subtract the $125 from the price.
