Connecticut Bat Alert – April 2026: Bats are returning now. The safe window for exclusion is closing fast.

If bats are active in your home right now, this is your last chance to remove them before you’re stuck until late summer.

Right now in mid-to-late April 2026, female bats across Connecticut are actively returning to their summer roosts. They are searching for warm, quiet attics, wall voids, and chimneys to give birth. If you’re seeing bats at dusk, hearing scratching in the attic, or finding fresh guano, this is the critical time to act.

We’re already seeing homes where a few bats returned in April turn into full colonies within weeks.

Bat maternity season alert Connecticut

We’re seeing increased activity statewide:

  • Fresh guano appearing in attics and under eaves in many homes
  • Bats returning to the same roosts they used last year
  • Homeowners reporting bats flying at dusk and scratching noises at night

If you’re seeing signs of bats right now, call or text us immediately: (860) 510-6313 — we can usually respond the same day or next day while the exclusion window is still open.

Do not wait. Once maternity season begins, removal is heavily restricted and the colony will remain in your home until mid-to-late August.

Critical Timing for Bat Exclusion in Connecticut – 2026

The safe window for full bat exclusion is closing quickly:

  • Now through early June: Best and final window to safely exclude bats before maternity season begins.
  • June 1 – August 15 (approx): Maternity season — we will not perform full exclusions. Doing so risks trapping flightless pups inside your home, which is illegal under CT DEEP rules.
  • After mid-August: Bats start leaving for winter — this becomes the next good window for exclusion.

If you wait too long, you will likely be stuck with the colony (and the guano) until late summer or fall.

We’re already seeing increased bat activity in towns like Madison and Waterford, where shoreline homes and wooded properties tend to see early-season returns.

Why Bats Are Returning Right Now

  • Females are looking for safe, warm locations to give birth and raise their pups.
  • Big brown bats (the most common species in Connecticut homes) are very loyal to the same roosts year after year.
  • Even a small number of bats now can quickly grow into a large maternity colony of 20–50+ once the pups are born in June and July.
